Jan Lust started his pianolessons with Walter Van Hyfte at the academy of Oudenaarde.  Afterwards he studied with Alan Weiss at the Lemmensinstituut Leuven.  There he obtained the Masterdegree and the "Specialization Diploma" for piano as well as the Masterdegree Chambermusic cum maxima laude.

As a scholarshipstudent he followed lessons at the Rubin Academy of music (University of Tel-Aviv) with Victor Derevianko and Natasha Tadson.  He was a participant in Masterclasses with E. Picht-Axenfeld, Chr. X. Sager and A. Lubimov, with whome he worked for a year as a free student.

He played many recitals and concerts, solo as well as chambermusic, in Belgium, the Netherlands, France,  Switserland, Austria, IsraĆ«l, Ireland and Nigeria.

Next to his teaching job at the Academy of Zottegem, he is the regular pianist of the chambermusicensemble Grupetto and forms a duo with his sister Sarie (flute).  As a duo they took lessons at the "Conservatoire National de Paris" with Pierre-Yves Artaut.  They were invited to play on a gala-evening in the presence of Prince Philip of Belgium.

In 2010 the trio Ka-dans was founded with Evy Van Dongen (clarinet) and Jo Vercruysse (violin/alto).

As pianist and celesta-player in the orchestra he worked with "Prima la musica" ,"The Symphony Orchestra of Flanders" and "Anima Eterna".

His repertoire for piano is traditional, going from Bach to the present with an emphasis on the great romantic composers (Chopin, Schumann, Liszt, Brahms) and the beginning of the 20th century (Debussy, Ravel, Scriabine) and the transcriptions of Busoni, Godowsky, Tausig and Liszt.

He teaches at the music academy of Zottegem-Oosterzele.
